In light of the tragic developments currently unfolding in Gaza, Israel and the Middle East, we have decided to release our feature documentary WAR AND JUSTICE about the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague together with the Palestinian-Israeli TRILOGY OF HOPE. The four films, linked by a series of dramatic and unexpected events, began in the Palestinian town of Jenin in the West Bank when a 12-year-old boy was killed by Israeli soldiers. Despite his deep grief, the father Ismael Khatib donates his son’s organs to Israeli children, thus setting an example of peace.
All four films tell of people who tried to break the vicious circle of violence.
For as plausible and compelling as the arguments may be for a society or a community of states to opt for war as a last resort, it risks laying the future of generations in ruins. The award-winning documentary WAR AND JUSTICE will be released in German cinemas on June 6. The film will be screened in the presence of Luis Moreno Ocampo, the first Chief Prosecutor of the ICC and Herta Däubler Gmelin (former German Minister of Justice) followed by a live Q&A. The Q&A will be broadcast worldwide as VOD.
Help us get these stories seen around the world. Donate to the non-profit organization Cinema Jenin e.V. and support the production.

WAR AND JUSTICE is a fascinating documentary that tells the 25-year history of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in its mission to end the most serious crimes against humanity. In recent years, the ICC has made a name for itself by issuing an arrest warrant against President Putin. On October 7, 2023, Hamas carries out a horrific massacre of Israeli civilians. Israel responds with the largest offensive on the Gaza Strip to date. ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan travels to the Middle East and announces that he will prosecute all kinds of war crimes on both sides. On April 28, the New York Times reports that the ICC may issue arrest warrants against Hamas leaders, as well as Prime Minister Benahmen Netanyahu, in the coming days over the ongoing Gaza war. WAR AND JUSTICE centers on Karim Khan, the current Chief Prosecutor, and Argentine lawyer Luis Moreno-Ocampo, who was appointed the ICC’s first Chief Prosecutor in 2003 and whose case against the junta in his country was the subject of the Oscar-nominated feature film “ARGENTINA: 1985”.
HEART OF JENIN
THE HEART OF JENIN tells the true story of Ishmael Khatib, whose 12-year-old son Ah-med was killed in 2005 in the Yenin refugee camp by bullets fired by Israeli soldiers. After the doctors at the hospital have only been able to diagnose Ahmed’s brain death, the Palestinian Ishmael decides to donate his son’s organs to Israeli children and thus save their lives.
Cinema Jenin – A story of a Dream (English)
In order to offer children and young people in Jenin hope and a perspective, hundreds of volunteers from all over the world, together with Ismael Khatib from 'The Heart of Jenin', are renovating an old cinema in Jenin that was closed during the first Intifada. CINEMA JENIN was opened in the summer of 2011 and operated as a movie theater for 5 years before it was demolished in December 2016 and replaced by a shopping mall.
After the Silence (English)
The Israeli woman Yael Armanet loses her husband in a suicide bombing by a Palestinian from Jenin and inspired by Ismael Khatib's gesture, sets out to visit the suicide bomber's family in Jenin to get answers about what happened.
